    The Hindola Festival

The Hindola Festival

In July and August of each year, it rains quite a lot in India. During this time, people make beautiful swings (hindolas) for Bhagwan. This is called the hindola utsav.

If you could make a hindolo for Bhagwan, what theme would you choose? What decorations would you use? Would your hindolo be space-themed? Or how about creating a winter wonderland hindolo? Something based on the Satsang Diksha, maybe? Or something that includes cute animals like in the photo here?

I would decorate my hindolo with white blocks that represent Akshardham. It would be themed as Akshardham, meaning that it would be built to resemble the beautiful Akshardham in the USA.

I would decorate my hindolo with crochet flowers and mini Satsang Dikshas. The background would have the theme of Mission Rajipo.

Swami, I would decorate my hindolo with a spring theme. It would have lots of pretty flowers and a nice tree on the side with lots of beautiful, bright green leaves.

I would choose a red hindolo with white, as these colours are related to the Satang Diksha and I love the Satang Diksha! I completed my mukpath, and I think it would please Bapa if my Hindolo was inspired by the Mission Rajipo uniform. I would also put a little tree above it with red and white flowers!

Jay Swaminarayan. I would decorate my hindola with the theme of birds in a garden. It would be hanging on the trees, and birds would be sitting around the hindolo doing darshan of Akshar-Purushottam Maharaj. The birds would be singing the ‘Swaminarayan’ dhoon cheerfully in their sweet little voices!

I would choose to have an autumn theme. It would have rabbits and parrots around it. Also, my hindolo would have a golden-coloured swing which Akshar-Purushottam Maharaj can swing on.

I would like to make hindola with a rainbow and clouds, as it is raining in India. Also, I would like to add peacocks, elephants and horses, as it reminds me of the kirtan “Sona ambadiye hathi shangariyo; gaje betha giradhaari re…” When I hear this kirtan, I think of Maharaj doing nagar yatra (rath yatra), and a rainbow appears in the sky, and all the people are in the rath yatra with all the animals participating in the nagar yatra, too.

My hindolo would be ocean-themed. I would use seashells, seaweed, and cute ocean and sea animal pictures. I would also add mini animal sculptures.

Yes, I would love to make a hindolo. Mine would be a space edition.

I would create a Mansarovar-themed hindolo! There would be snow accumulating around Akshar-Purushottam Maharaj (fake snow, of course), an icy-blue lake made of resin with white swans made of glass on top, and more glass swans sitting around the feet of Akshar-Purushottam Maharaj. This all would truly encapsulate the beauty of Mansarovar and give Maharaj and Swami a chilly break from last month’s burning heat in India! Bonus points if Akshar-Purushottam Maharaj can be dressed in ice-colored vagha!
