From 15 to 19 May 2006, 60 specially trained balaks from the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Surat, performed a series of mahapuja ceremonies to pray for world peace.

Since February 2006 these selected balaks were given special training to enable them to correctly and clearly recite the Vedic Sanskrit verses for the mahapuja ceremony. Also, they were taught all the details of the rituals and how to perform them. As well as these balaks, there were 200 balaks who served as assistants in the ceremonies.

The balaks were divided into ten main groups and they visited the satsang centers in the suburbs of Surat to perform the Vedic mahapuja rituals. Over 12,500 devotees participated in the mahapuja ceremonies conducted by the balaks.

In addition, the balaks conducted mahapuja ceremonies for 3,250 devotees from 80 villages around Surat and 700 devotees in Rajkot.
