Janmashtmi Celebration
28 August 2013
Raisan, India

The young boys of BAPS Swaminarayan Vidyamandir, Raysan, celebrated Janmashtmi with a lively festival and gained appreciation for their culture and traditions.  Students in the Nursery, Jr. Kindergarten, and Sr. Kindergarten sections prepared something special for the festival. The Nursery and Jr. Kindergarten children dressed up and performed dances to folk hymns of Krishna Bhagwan while the Sr. Kindergarten students sang “Shyam tari Gita no vagi rahyo shankh.” At the end of the performances was the much awaited breaking of the matki. With the successful break of the matki began a celebration of fun and frolic. The boys heartily danced to the celebratory hymn, “Nand gher anand bhayo”. The festival ended with arti and the rocking of God’s cradle. In their own way, the students learned how the world rejoices with joy with God graces this Earth with an avatar
