    Bal Mandal Camp
October 2008, Nairobi

With the divine blessings from P. P. Swami Bapa, the Bal Mandal had organised a three day Camp in BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Nairobi.  The focus was to build on the balaks’ extra curricular activities.  This camp was to coincide with the school break during October and help the kids get exposed to and improve on their extra-curricular activities.

The camp’s program was developed under the direction of P. Bhaktavatsal Swami and Sant Mandal.  A total of 50 kids attended the camp.  The intent of the camp was to focus on three specific extra-curricular activities as:

Nrutya talim - An introduction to Dance

Abhinay kala – An Introduction to Drama

Vakrutva kala – An introduction to Public Speaking

An Introduction to Gujarati - A tutorial on the Gujarati language

Bal Etiquette – Do’s and Don’ts on Balak’s behaviour in Mandir, home and school

The participants in the camp were divided into three groups and were introduced to each of the above mentioned activities during the day.  At the end of the day a summary was presented to recap the activities organized during the day.  In addition the participants were quizzed to reinforce what they had learnt.  Further, each participating balak was presented with a personal letter – words of encouragement on their participating and their potential future development relating to these activities.

The program was very well received by the enthused participants with an unanimous opinion that this activity should be held every year.
