By the divine grace of Pramukh Swami Maharaj and in the presence of Pujya Gnanyogi Swami, Pujya Siddhyogi Swami, Pujya Tapovatsal Swami and Pujya Shrijiseva Swami; a National Bal-Balika Tanzania, Shibir was held in Dar es Salaam from Friday 9th December to Monday 12th December 2011.
Around 130 Bal and Balikas from BAPS Centres in Arusha, Mwanza and Tanga travelled to Dar es Salaam to attend the shibir themed Shastra – Walk the Talk. The event introduced and familiarized the Balaks and Balikas with Hindu Scriptures, BAPS Scriptures and finally Sant - the walking shastra which altogether laid out the importance of sant and shastras in our life.
The Shibir began with a registration, allocating each balak and balika into his or her respective group therefore attending the classrooms and workshops collectively.
The first session began with the deep pragatya by Shrijiseva Swami and Shri Subhashbhai Patel; followed by a classroom session that introduced the main Hindu Scriptures to the balaks and balikas. Through brief animated videos, the balaks obtained a short summary-like understanding of different Hindu Shastras like Vedas, Upanishads,Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, Mahabharat and Ramayan. Pujya Siddhyogi Swami then addressed the key points through enlightening explanations and informative games. The following workshop was conducted by the karyakars. These sessions included detailed explanation of specific shastras like their structure, their compilation, their compilers and interesting skits that portrayed different stories.
The second day also began with a classroom session conducted by Pujya Gnanyogi Swami briefly introducing the three main Swaminarayan scriptures namely: Vachanamrut, Swami Ni Vato and Shikshapatri. The following workshop was somewhat different. It involved an exhibition of various darbars in which Maharaj had narrated different vachanamruts two-hundred years ago. It was a delightful experience for the bal and balikas. The attendees were then given simple questionnaires to exhibit their knowledge.
On the penultimate day, Pujya Tapovatsal Swami talked about how the Sant suits to be the walking and talking shastra. The classroom emphasized the nature of the Satpurush in relation to all the Scriptures that were discussed in the last two days. The resulting workshop: Sant- The Walking Shastra included inspiring presentations and videos that expressed the greatness of the Satpurush. Finally, on the last day an outing was organized for all the balaks and balikas at the Water World Beach Park.
Over the course of the three days, the different workshops, classrooms, and inspiring videos served as an important stepping-stone for the balaks and balikas to develop a foundation on the perspective of Hindu Scriptures. It also instilled basic Hindu values in their lives and increased an understanding on who the Satpurush really is.
