SWAMI MARA… HU SWAMI NO
Shibir

07 June 2013, Kisumu, Kenya

110 boys and girls from the western Kenyan cities Eldorate, Kakamega and Kisumu gathered at Kisumu mandir for a special Bal Vikas Parvas this summer. They came prepared for an active and engaging shibir centered on the theme: “Swami Mara, Hu Swami No” – “Swami is Mine, I am His”. The one and half day shibir started Saturday morning at 9am and went until noon on Sunday. The shibir was organized in three sections. The first took place on Saturday morning and focues on the guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s saintliness and virtues. The second session was held in the afternoon and focused on the how the power of our guru’s virtues have brought amazing transformations to people’s lives. The third and final session was held Sunday morning and explored how we may please our guru and follow his wishes. All three sessions were excellently planned to have a mix of instructive speeches, interactive games and questions-answer sessions, and interesting discussions. Special presentations included picture presentations, funny videos, games, and dances. There was even a kirtan aradhana which brought both young and old to their feet in joyous devotion. The shibir was also a great example of the spirit of unity that pervades satsang. The Kisumu mandal which hosted the event was inexhaustible in their enthusiasm to serve the children that had come to their center. They worked tireless to organize accommodations, facilities, and meals that were according to the children’s tastes. In the end, each of the participants and hosts were so pleased with the shibir that everyone could not help but think, “We will definitely have to have more of these.”
