    Bal/Balika Perform Tsunami Peace Prayers
2nd April, 2005,
Wellingborough, London, UK

The Wellingborough Bal/Balika mandal performed the Tsunami peace prayers for the second time at a local charity gathering. On this occasion the Isham’s Friend and Family invited them for the event held on Saturday, 2nd April 2005 for the purpose of collecting funds for the recent tragedy.
The five Balaks dressed in traditional jabo, lengo and adorned by a gataryu performed the peace prayers admirably in front of a sizeable audience. One Balak had earlier made the assembly aware that the prayers in Sanskrit had formed part of a larger event held at the London mandir in front of 12 ambassadors from the affected countries. The reaction at the end of the item was a spontaneous round of applause.
The six Balikas dressed in conventional Indian costume performed a well-rehearsed dance on a kirtan taken from a Bal mandal CD. The intricate movement within the dance was one of the highlights of the whole event, which attracted a lot of admirers.
The event was so successful that the organisers appreciated the Bal/Balika input and they expressed their appreciation in a letter of thanks.
