October, 2009
Toronto, Canada
During the recent few months, bal parāyans occurred across Canada in four different centers: Toronto, Brampton/Mississauga, Etobicoke, and Scarborough. During the two-day parāyan, balaks from each center performed three dramas: Kalyān no Khap, Swami Vivekanand, and Ek Pātra Abhinay. In addition, those balaks who participated in the summer’s adhiveshan also performed solo singing, speech, storytelling, Swami ni Vāto, and sholka-sākhis.
In Toronto, the program was structured a bit differently. The parāyan was done by two speakers, who spoke on Ghanshyam Charitra. Several additional dramas and dances were performed, including a shishu dance on Dharma gher nand bhayo, a dance on Kyāye nathi Ghanshyam, and a drama depicting the prasang of Kalidatta. The morals and messages in the kathā and dramas were clearly and thoroughly presented. Overall, the bal parāyans were well executed and highly effective in spreading the message about bal activities.
