Bhaktaraj Jivuba

Jivuba was the daughter of Abhel Khachar, the darbar of Gadhpur. She was the oldest sister of Dada Khachar. From her very childhood, her life was full of devotion to Bhagwan. She would take on severe tapa (austerities) such as avoiding tasty food.  She was constantly trying to please Bhagwan and wanted to keep him close to her heart.

When Shriji Maharaj came to Gadhada, her joy knew no bounds.  Jivuba, along with her younger siblings, Lalita (Laduba) and Dada Khachar would continuously be in his service. This love is what made Shriji Maharaj use Gadhada as his base for over 28 years.

Her love for Shriji Maharaj’s devotees and sadhus was just as much. Once, Jivuba was returning to Gadhada from Kariyani in her chariot. On the way, she saw a sadhu sitting under a tree. Jivuba sent the charioteer to the sadhu to find out what he was doing sitting under the tree all alone. The charioteer returned and informed Jivuba that the sadhu was Akhandanand Swami, one of Maharaj’s paramhansas and he was suffering from a very painful stomach ailment which caused him to have diarrhoea. It was due to this pain and weakness that he could not walk so he was sitting under the tree.

Hearing the plight of Maharaj’s sadhu, Jivuba could not bear to see such suffering. She instantly got off her chariot, prepared a comfortable seat  and instructed the charioteer to ask Akhandanand Swami to lie down in the chariot and to take him to Gadhada, while she would make her way by walking.

Akhandanand Swami reached Gadhada without any difficulty. However this was not the case for Jivuba. With her attendant she set off walking.  As they were walking, the scorching summer heat made it really difficult for Jivuba. Since she was a princess, she never had to walk in this manner before, and thus her feet were pierced by thorns, stones, etc. However, Jivuba did not care; she cared only for Maharaj’s sadhus.  She made her way to Gadhada and proceeded with her normal duties.

When Maharaj came to know of this, he was very pleased with Jivuba. He told everyone that what Jivuba has done was not just good but great! He remarked, “To have served my sadhu was as good as having served me.” In This way Jivuba was able to earn Maharaj’s blessings.
