Shriji Maharaj has said in the Vachanamrut, “This jnan is about understanding.” (Loya 6)

If jnan means knowledge or understanding, then mahatmyajnan means having the greatest knowledge or understanding of the spiritual world. Once a person has this jnan then nothing can derail him from the spiritual path, not even harsh words spoken to him in his presence.

Once, after Gunatitanand Swami had answered nature's call, Pragji Bhakta was pouring clean water so Swami could wash his hands. Suddenly, Swami said softly, “Pragji, my heart is overflowing with jnan, but I don’t know who to give it to.”

Hearing this Pragji Bhakta became excited. He knew this was a golden opportunity and instantly said, “Swami! Why don’t you give me this knowledge?” Seeing the eagerness in his eyes, Swami smiled. He too “could recognise a true bhakta” and saw one in Pragji Bhakta. He said, “The knowledge you are asking for Pragji, cannot be given away just like that! It can only be given to one who has earned it. Such a person is not attached to this world. He destroys all his sensual desires and materialistic wishes and surrenders his mind, body and atma to the one who has that ultimate knowledge.”

Seeing Swami’s inner wish of giving away that knowledge, Pragji Bhagat started to prepare himself. He lived according to the words and inner wishes of Swami in order to be worthy of receiving that knowledge! Realizing his readiness, Gunatitanand Swami happily shared the mahatmyajnan with Pragji Bhagat.

n When one is granted ultimate knowledge, one understands the true form of Bhagwan. This happens when one believes, lives and speaks only that which pleases the true Gunatit Sadhu. Just as Pragji Bhakta was able to follow his guru’s agnas (commands), we too should reflect on what Swamishri asks of us and strive to live according to his wishes so that we too may be blessed with the ultimate spiritual wisdom.
