The Lazy Camel

Once there was a very lazy camel. He never wanted to work in his life. One day while thinking of an easier way to get things. He got an idea, “I will go to the forest and do some austerities. God will be pleased with me and he will grant me a boon.”

The camel performed austerities and at last Brahmaji was pleased with him. Brahmaji asked, “What boon do you want?” The camel replied, “O Lord! Make my neck 400 miles long so that I can eat without having to get up and walk” Brahmaji asked again, “Are you sure? 400 miles long?” The camel replied, “Yes Lord. Make my neck 400 miles long. That way I will never have to move in my life.”

Brahmaji granted him the boon. Now the camel would sit at one place and eat leaves and grass from the whole forest without moving. In this way he became even lazier.

One day the camel could not find anything to eat nearby. So he extended his long neck in search of food. While he was eating a violent storm with heavy rain started. The camel could not pull back his 400 mile long neck and so he entered a cave. So that at least his head could stay dry.

In this cave lived a family of foxes. At first they were surprised to see this head on a long neck. But when they realized that it was the neck of a camel all of them jumped on it and started eating it.

What could the camel do? His laziness had made him ask for a long neck and now it was so big that he could not bring it back. The foxes were enjoying him for dinner. The camel cried for help, “Help me…Save me” but sadly he died saying, “My laziness brought my own death.”

Be careful don’t let your laziness in study, chores or seva ruin your life.
