He had such a great understanding of the Vachanamrut, that he could talk for hours on various topics without getting tired.
Imagine leaving your home, your city, and your country and moving to another country, to another new city and into another home. Everything would be new and so different! At first, it may even seem scary to be in a new place where you don’t know anyone. That’s exactly what it was like for Maganbhai Patel, who moved from India to Kenya to start a new job. Maganbhai did not know what to expect. But his life changed; and in some ways, not for the better.
In Kenya, Maganbhai mixed in bad company and gave up all the niyams which made him a good man. But after coming into contact with a devotee named Harmanbhai, Maganbhai was introduced to satsang and was inspired by letters written to him from India by Nirgundas Swami. Nirgundas Swami was a great sadhu in Shastriji Maharaj’s time. After reading Nirgundas Swami’s letters, Maganbhai began to study the Vachanamrut. He also communicated with Shastriji Maharaj. All of this helped him gain a deeper understanding of the Akshar-Purushottam upasana. Not only did this inspire Maganbhai to give up addictions but he inspired many other people to also give up addictions such as smoking, drinking alcohol, gambling, etc. He helped them understand the Akshar-Purushottam upasana.
He had such a great understanding of the Vachanamrut that he could talk for hours on various topics without getting tired. Wherever he went in East Africa, be it Kisumu, Tororo or Jinja, he started satsang sabhas. In 1934, the East African Satsang Mandal was formed by Maganbhai.
Maganbhai had moved to Africa to start a new life and to start a new job. Not only was he successful in doing both, he was also able to learn about Satsang, become an outstanding satsangi and inspire many others to become satsangis.
How amazing was Maganbhai! Shastriji Maharaj used to say, “I am working through Maganbhai in Africa. You should seek his company.” Maganbhai planted the seeds of Satsang wherever he went, and today Satsang in Africa has grown so much. This was due to the inspiration of Shastriji Maharaj and the dedication of Maganbhai. That’s why Maganbhai is this month’s Cool Satsangi!
