On the way to Vandhiya in Kutch, several robbers forcefully stopped Maharaj and Mukund Brahmachari and demanded that they hand over all their valuables. Neither Mukund Brahmachari nor Maharaj had anything except some food, which Mukund Brahmachari gave to the robbers at Maharaj’s request. After this incident, they continued on their journey. A short time later, Maharaj said, “I am very hungry, please give me some sweets. I won’t be able to walk any further without food!”  Mukund Brahmachari replied, “The robbers did not need nor ask for the food and yet you made me give it to them. Now you are asking me for some food. Where will I get it from?” Maharaj refused to move and stood waiting for Mukund Brahmachari to make other arrangements.  What could Mukund Brahmachari do now that Maharaj had made him give away all their food for the journey? To make matters worse they were nowhere near their destination and now Maharaj was hungry! While he thought about how to make provisions for Maharaj, a Kanbi Patel passed by in a bullock cart.  As he was taking the same route as them, Mukund Brahmachari approached him for a ride to Vandhiya. Maharaj got on the cart and invited Mukund Bramachari to join him; however Mukund Bramachari felt it was not proper for him to sit with Maharaj, and so he followed on foot. Since the cart was being pulled by two bulls, Mukund Bramachari could not keep up and as a result he was left lagging behind. So Maharaj mischievously decided to put the entire weight of the brahmand (the universe) on the cart.  The Kanbi Patel tried his best to make the cart move, but he realized that the bulls would not even move an inch. In response to his several failed attempts Maharaj said, “That bearded sadhu knows some black magic. He is the one holding the cart back. So somehow make him sit on your cart then he will allow it to move. If he refuses to sit, pull him forcefully into your cart.” Puzzled, the Patel agreed and requested Mukund Brahmachari to join Maharaj on his cart. At first he refused, but eventually after much persuasion he agreed to join Maharaj on the cart. And as Maharaj had previously said, as soon as Mukund Brahmachari sat in the cart, the cart began to move. Upon reaching Vandhiya, Mukund Brahmachari made preparations for Maharaj’s meal.

From this story we can see Maharaj’s playful nature,  using his powers not only to bring people close to God, but also to have a little bit of fun with his devotees. Maharaj gave the food away, and then refused to move because he was hungry! When transportation arrived, he put the weight of the universe on the cart to confuse the Patel. Maharaj’s  divine ways are truly memorable and humourous.
