Not Rejecting Seva

Pramukh Swami Maharaj was in the village of Undhela, in Kheda district, Gujarat. After making home-visits all morning, Swamishri began replying to letters in the afternoon. Though it was time to rest, Swamishri kept on writing one letter after another. Then an attendant sadhu came and placed another pile of letters. Swamishri was absorbed in his correspondence. A sadhu seated in the room could no longer restrain himself and thus placed his hand on the pile of letters and said, “Swami, please stop now. You can answer these letters later. You have been writing for quite some time.” But Swamishri did not pay any attention.

The sadhu humbly requested, “Bapa! Answer these letters later. You will get tired. It would be better if you take some rest now.”

Swamishri smiled at the sadhu and said, “This is seva. Seva should not be rejected.” And Swamishri continued answering the letters.

In the last three decades Swamishri has read and written 500,000 letters. He never tires answering the unending torrent of letters he receives each day. Neither old age nor his hectic travelling schedules or daily agenda of work prevents him from this seva. He sees this seva as a service to God and that is why he never neglects it.
