A Midnight Prayer

A Midnight Prayer

It was 2:30 a.m. and all of London was asleep. A faint sound could be heard coming from Pramukh Swami’s bedroom. This sound caused the attendant sadhu to wake up. He could hear the soft repetitions of “Swaminarayan, Swaminarayan, Swaminarayan…”

He looked towards Swami’s bed. Swami was sitting up and softly reciting the Swaminarayan mantra. For some time, the sadhu just stared at Swami who was engrossed in deep prayer. He then went towards Swami and said, “Swami, don’t you want to sleep. Why are you chanting the dhun and praying at such a time?”

At first, Swamishri was hesitant to answer. After a while, he replied, “There is a famine in India. There are no rains. I am praying that the rains fall and bring peace and relief to the suffering animals, birds, and people.”
“How often do you do these midnight prayers?” The sadhu enquired. Swamishri reluctantly replied, “I often pray at night. I pray for all the people who come to me with their problems.”

This is our guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj. He gives up his own sleep and comfort to pray for our worries.
His life motto is: In the joy of others, lies our own.

INSPIRATION:There is immense strength in prayer. No matter what pain or difficulty may come, a heart-filled prayer will ease our worries.
