One Push!

In 1977, Swamishri was touring in the Sabarkantha region. At that time, Swamishri and some sadhus were travelling in two Chevrolet cars. Swamishri was seated in the nine-seater car. Whenever  there were two cars, Swamishri would always make sure that they never got too far apart on the road, and that they both arrived at their destination at the same time. Often he would tell the driver to slow down, or even stop if the other car had fallen too far behind.

During their journey they were on their way to Motap village when they came across a shallow river. Both cars halted, one behind the other, with Swamishri’s car in front. Swamishri instructed the driver to go ahead. Splashing through the river Swamishri’s car made it across with ease. The car behind Swamishri followed. As the first car reached the opposite bank Swamishri and the other sadhus and devotees looked back to see if the other car had also made it. However, it appeared to have become stuck. The sadhus in the car got out and began to push the car to free it from the mud. Swamishri, Dr. Swami, Pragat Bhagat and the other sadhus got out and went to see if they could help. Soon, all the sadhus, including Dr. Swami, were pushing! But the car didn’t budge. Eventually, Swamishri himself rolled up his dhotiyu and began to push along with the rest. Some of the sadhus said, “Swami! There’s no need for you to push.”

Dr. Swami laughed and said, “Let him push it! Only his strength is going to get this car out!”

Swamishri stood up and said, “Look, when I say Sahajanand Swami Maharaj ni Jai-Jai-Jai, on the third Jai, everybody lift the car a little and push...it’ll come out.”

One sadhu stood on the side to take a break. Swamishri immediately told him, “Come on, get back here! Only together will we be able to move the car.” Then he called the ‘Jai’. Everyone pushed together and with an almighty heave, the car skidded out! Even in such a situation, Swamishri taught us all a valuable lesson. No matter how small the job – we always require oneness – one mind, one goal, coupled with Bhagwan’s strength! This strategy is followed by Swamishri.
