Saying of Swamishri

God-realized Sadhu

A sadhu’s true greatness is measured by his virtues, not his miraculous powers. The greatest aishvarya of a God-realized Sadhu is spiritual in nature: God resides in him eternally. A more detailed explanation:
God works through him.
God walks through him.
God sees through him.
God hears through him.
God speaks through him.
God breathes through him.
God resides in him.
The Supreme Being that is responsible for creating, sustaining and regulating this universe is present in him. Just to fully understand this profound knowledge requires a certain level of spiritual insight.

One way of understanding that greatness is recognizing his servitude towards God. Despite possessing God’s aishvarya, Swamishri never forgets that he is God’s servant.

Dr Sureshbhai Patel, a longtime friend of Swamishri’s heart surgeon, Dr Subramanium, had been observing Swamishri’s work for several years. On 19 May 2004, he came for Swamishri’s darshan, “Just as God is able to govern the universe with his unlimited powers, you have governed innumerable souls on the path to spirituality. They have joined in your cause to help humanity. Therefore, I believe you to be God.”

Swamishri started shaking his head in disapproval, “No, no. I am God’s humble servant. God works through a sadhu.” This wasn’t just a memorized reply. He believes this from the bottom of his heart and lives in that way. The fact that God has graced him with his aishvarya and yet, Swamishri has never let it get to his head is a special strength in itself.

‘Me’, ‘I’ and ‘Mine’ are words that are common in most successful people’s vocabulary. Swamishri has never used them or bothered to learn their use.
