“A little hardship isn’t going to kill us.”

Swamishri’s ability to be simple, transparent and content has become more evident with the passage of time. Swamishri’s ability to adjust is apparent through his spiritual tours around the world. He never gets agitated when there is lack of facilities. He smiles and says, “It is fine the way it is. Don’t worry about it. A little hardship isn’t going to kill us.”

On 14 September 1975, Swamishri was on his way for the murti-pratishtha in the village of Kala Talav in Bhavnagar district. It started raining and the dirt road became sticky. A few kilometres into their route, the Fargo van became stuck in the muddy road. The sadhus, devotees and even Swamishri tried to push, but the van would not budge.

Someone suggested that placing rocks and stones under the wheels would help push the van out.
It was still raining and Swamishri’s clothes were wet. The sadhus suggested that Swamishri wait under a tree while they tried to get the car out. The sadhus and devotees began to gather stones to put under the wheels; Swamishri joined in as well. The sadhus tried to stop him, “There is no need for you to lift the stones, there are so many of us.”

“There’s nothing wrong with lifting a few stones. I used to lift stones in Shastriji Maharaj’s time. I did physical work during Yogiji Maharaj’s time too. It’s nothing new.” With this, Swamishri continued gathering stones. Then they tried again to push the van free. But it wouldn’t move. Someone suggested getting another car from a nearby village, but Swamishri said, “There is no need to do that.  Let’s start walking and we will get to the next village in no time.”

They walked until they reached Dudhadhar, where devotees helped get three bullock carts.
They got in the bullock carts and made it to Kala Talav in the drenching rain.
Swamishri was unfazed by the situation. He sang the Swaminarayan dhun the whole way there.
