It seems like a miracle

It seems like a miracle

In his Yogasutra, Maharshi Panini speaks of one who is truthful, “For one who has established the truth through his life, his every word and action comes true.” The Chhandogya Upanishad (8.1.5) states that every wish and desire of Aksharbrahman represents the truth.

Swamishri’s words and wishes bear fruition because he lives so truthfully.

The last few months leading up to the Birth Bicentenary Celebrations of Gunatitanand Swami in 1985 were very tense and chaotic. There was an impending famine in Gujarat and students were organizing agitations to protest certain changes in the education system. It was already the third month of the monsoon season and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Many community leaders wanted the festival to be postponed. Swamishri had asked everyone to pray and said, “The festival will be celebrated as planned. It will rain. God is merciful; he will listen to our prayers.” To everyone’s surprise, it rained, removing any fear of famine; and the students’ issues were also resolved.

Once the land for Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi had been officially acquired, Swamishri said, “We want to build the foundations such that there will be no problems for a thousand years.” However, India’s renowned structural engineer, Shri B.V. Chaudhari, and other experts had their doubts, “Pramukh Swami’s wish to build a foundation to last a thousand years in the sandy, earthquake-prone zone on the banks of a river did not seem possible and was beyond our capacity.” Yet Pramukh Swami Maharaj insisted that the task would be accomplished. Today, as the monument stands glistening on the banks of the River Yamuna, designers Shri Mahesh Desai and Shri B.V. Chaudhari are still wondering how it happened. They comment, “It seems like a miracle. There is no way we could have found an answer by ourselves. It is due to divine intervention. Now we are confident that this remarkable edifice will glow for centuries to come.”
