Detachment from His Own Creation

Detachment from His Own Creation

As a gift to future generations, Swamishri builds magnificent traditional mandirs and cultural centres. He has also created the magnificent Akshardham complexes in New Delhi and Gandhinagar. These mandirs and complexes inspire spiritual, cultural and social activities in society. Yet, Swamishri is never physically attached to any one place. After inaugurating a new mandir and setting up the infrastructure needed to maintain it, Swamishri is on the move again, promoting world harmony, spirituality and cultural coexistence.

The Duke of Edinburgh HRH Prince Philip was left speechless after visiting Akshardham in Gandhinagar. Swamishri was in Surendranagar at the time and therefore was unable to meet him.

Prince Philip asked the guide, “I understand that Swamiji is not here now, but he does live here, doesn’t he?”
The Prince was surprised to learn that Swamishri did not live at Akshardham permanently and only sometimes visited there. He wondered how someone could create something so majestic and not live there.

On 10 November 1997, Pramukh Swami Maharaj honoured Prince Philip’s invitation and graced Buckingham Palace. Prince Philip recalled his visit to Akshardham the previous year.
“Akshardham is marvelous! I am surprised that you have made such a beautiful place yet do not live there.”
Swamishri listened attentively to the Prince and just smiled.

The Prince was puzzled by Swamishri’s detachment from his own creation.
