This Body is Dust

This Body is Dust

Once in 1985, Swamishri had arrived in Karel from Navsari. Swamishri was getting ready for bed, when the attendant sadhus realized that there was a lot of dirt on the blanket. Swamishri asked them, “What are you doing? Is it dusty?”

“Yes, I’m cleaning it,” the sadhu replied.

Swamishri commented, “Our body is made of dust as well.” Swamishri’s words reflected his understanding of this philosophical truth that night.

It was very cold, but Swamishri fell asleep with just a light blanket for cover. In the morning, the attendant sadhus saw that in his sleep Swamishri had taken a mosquito net and wrapped it around himself for warmth. Swamishri never complained about the arrangements, believing his body to be of dust.
