Good Behavior

It was a cold morning on 23 October 1988. The mandir in Neasden was packed with devotees. After his puja and breakfast, Swamishri attended the morning assembly. A young, intelligent boy started reading VachanamrutGadhada I16. Swamishri moved to the edge of his seat and listened with interest. The whole assembly of devotees were awaiting to jot down Swamishri's narration. After a while Swamishri asked a young boy namedChandu about the meaning of the word 'vivek' read from the Vachanamrut.

Chandu remained silent, so Swamishri said, "Vivek means good behavior. You should not play mischief in the mandir. And you must not quarrel or fight with others either. You must form a habit of listening to bhajans and kirtans and become helpful to others. If you run around, you will disturb the devotees listening to the sadhus. Even for the convenience of others you should all sit in one place and be quiet and attentive. 'Vivek' means behaving yourself and being good."
