Eating Meat Is a Sin

Eating Meat Is a Sin

On his way to the mandir for darshan, Swamishri saw the teenage son of a dedicated devotee.
Instantly, Swamishri asked, "Why haven't you been coming?"
"I'll come from now on," the youth promised.
"Promise?" Swamishri said grasping his hand.
"Yes Bapa, promise."
"Good, now you don't take any alcohol or eat meat, do you?"
The teenager didn't reply. Again Swamishri asked, "You are vegetarian, aren't you?"
"Last time you told me not to eat eggs. So since then I've stopped eating them."
The reply did not satisfy Swamishri, so he persisted, "It's good you've stopped eating eggs. But what about meat?"
"I eat it sometimes," the youth admitted.
Hearing this, Swamishri spoke out, "Is there a need to - even occasionally? See, this mandir has been built. Your father has put in tremendous efforts to help. For whom? Your uncles have worked very hard for this mandir as well. For whom? For you, so that you come to the mandir and preserve the practice of Satsang. But if you don't come and do satsang, what's the point? So, give it up from today. Detach yourself from this sin."

The teenager realized his mistake and promised, "Bapa, I've decided not to eat meat anymore."
Swamishri blessed him and made his way for morning puja.
