A large number of Guyanese Indians reside in New York. Their forefathers had originally migrated 150-200 years ago from the Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to the West Indian islands of Guyana and others. The Guyanese community have established 50 mandirs to maintain their Hindu culture. Today, Dr. Dhanpal and other leading Guyanese came to seek Swamishri’s blessings. Their community members meet on a regularly basis for satsang.
Swamishri appreciated their efforts, “The significance about your community is that you have not given up your dharma, even though you have lost the links with India. You have built mandirs to preserve our dharma and culture.” Then Swamishri emphasised that they should abide by the moral and spiritual code of conduct of Hindu culture. “Keep your life pure so that your children can follow and maintain it in their lives. Abide by the moral code of conduct. You should not eat meat or drink liquor. To be a vegetarian is our culture. Preserve our culture. Read the Bhagvat, Gita, Ramayan and follow its messages.”
Swamishri inspired further momentum in their spiritual endeavours.
