Maharaj Before Self

Maharaj Before Self

In 1998, in New York, Swami was to have an emergency bypass operation done. Dr. Subramanium was called and he fully examined Swami and prepared for the operation. It was 11:30 a.m. and everything was set to start. However, Swamishri asked that they delay the operation until 3:00 p.m. The doctors explained to Swami that the surgery needed to be done as soon as possible, but eventually they agreed to the delay. At exactly 3:00 p.m. Swamibapa was wheeled into the operation theatre with Thakorji at his side.
A few weeks later, while Swami was recovering in Westchester, NY, the sadhus, out of curiosity, asked Swami why he had insisted on the delay. Swami explained, “If we went in at 3:00 p.m., we would be able to serve Thakorji thal and let him rest for a while before waking him up.”

We can see that even in the most serious of situations, Pramukh Swami Maharaj thinks of Thakorji first. We too can learn from Swami. We can start off small by remembering Maharaj and Swami in our daily actions and eventually it will become like second nature.
