    Ahimsa Paramo Dharma

Ahimsa Paramo Dharma

The Mahabharat is a renowned Hindu shastra. It carries a very important teaching: Ahimsa Paramo Dharma. This means that non-violence is the highest moral virtue. In the Satsang Diksha, Mahant Swami Maharaj explains that ahimsa doesn’t just mean to not harm anyone with our actions, but it also means to not cause harm with our words or even our thoughts.

What are some situations where we can practice ahimsa in our lives?

You can practice ahimsa in very simple, everyday actions. That means choosing not to hurt anyone. You can also practice it by staying calm instead of shouting, using kind words, treating animals gently, not pushing or hitting others, and trying not to harm other people or nature.

We can practice ahimsa by speaking kindly, avoiding harsh or hurtful language, and choosing silence when anger arises. Ahimsa also means keeping our thoughts free from hatred, jealousy, and judgment, and instead wishing well for others, even those who hurt us. Through our actions, ahimsa is practiced by being patient, forgiving mistakes, showing compassion to people, animals, and nature, and avoiding retaliation. By living with empathy, self-control, and inner peace, we make ahimsa a practical and living principle in our everyday lives.

By reading good books, listening to katha-varta, and by not having krodh (anger). Also, by following swami’s agna.

There are lots of ways to be non-violent – mentally, physically and spiritually. We should never hurt anyone with our hands or thoughts. One way to practice ahimsa is by staying calm even when someone is rude to us. Thinking of Maharaj and Swami can also help us.

We can practice ahimsa in many situations in out daily lives. For example, we can use kind words and not say hurtful things to others. We can help our friends instead of fighting with them. We can be gentle with animals and not harm them. We can also control our anger and think good thoughts about others. By being kind in our actions, words, and thoughts, we can practice ahimsa everyday.

At school, when we play with our friends, we need to make sure our words and actions are appropriate. At mandir and at home, I can practice ahimsa by respecting my elders and watching my words before saying them to make sure I do not hurt anyone. I should also always thinking twice before acting or saying anything, as my actions or words can hurt someone and make Swamishri unhappy.

Jay Swaminarayan! We could practice ahimsa by following the dharmas that Mahant Swami Maharaj has given us in the Satsang Diksha. Like Swamishri writes in Satsang Diksha Shlok #38, we should try to maintain ahimsa in our daily lives with friends, other satsangis at the mandir, and with family.

Himsa is one of the most disrespectful ways to treat someone or something. Wouldn’t it feel amazing if there were no himsa in this world. I’d sure love that!
