    Cooking for Bhagwan

Cooking for Bhagwan

Offering thal is a good way to thank Bhagwan for all he has given us. It is also an important part of our ahnik (daily satsang rituals). This is why Mahant Swami Maharaj offers thal to Bhagwan every day during his puja.

If you could cook any dish in the world for Bhagwan, what would it be? Why would you choose to offer this dish in particular?

There wouldn’t be just one dish in particular that I would cook for Swami. I would cook Swami a mini dessert buffet with brownies, red velvet cupcakes, mini candies, donuts, cookies, and so much more. I would pick these items in particular because I have seen my mom make a lot of desserts, and I would like to try making them, too. Also, I love offering my cooking or arts and crafts to Swami.

I would cook each family member’s favourite foods to make a whole meal for Maharaj and Swamishri. The items I would cook are: ringan and peas nu shaak, daal, bhaat, jalebi and handavo. The whole meal would be just like a family, where we all complement each other and have unity.

I would like to offer cookies to Maharaj when he comes to our home. I would like to also offer sabji roti, French fries and pizza. After the meal, I would pray for Maharaj to one day take me to Akshardham.

I would prepare shrikhand, puri, paneer curry, and buttermilk, as it is a proper dish to offer to Maharaj, Swami, and the guru parampara.

Jay Swaminarayan. I would love to offer Harikrishna Maharaj churros with Nutella and one chocolate waffle with ice cream on top. Then some chocolate pancakes with maple syrup and strawberries and blueberries on top. I choose this dish because it is very delicious. Jay Swaminarayan.

I would make mamra (puffed rice) for Mahant Swami Maharaj. I would make mamara because it is one of Swamishri’s favorite foods.

I would make chocolate cake. That’s because every time when Mahant Swami Maharaj offers chocolate cake to Thakorji, he gives blessings to the person who made the cake. This makes me feel happy.

If I were given the choice to cook any dish in the world for Bhagwan, it would be paatra. I would cook patra because it is Mahant Swami Maharaj’s favourite. And one of my favourite prasangs is behind this very dish. Yogi Bapa once mentioned that Mahant Swami Maharaj doesn’t like patra. Even though he did like patra, he decided to stop eating them due to Yogi Bapa’s words.
Swami still followed this niyam to this day. Despite how many times santos requested Swami to eat a piece of paatra, Swami didn’t. And he only had one small piece after santo asked him on multiple occasions. This prasang has stayed in my heart, and any time I eat patra, it comes to my mind as a beautiful smruti.

I will prepare baingan bhartha for Swaminarayan Bhagwan. That’s because Swaminarayan Bhagwan’s favourite dish is brinjal. In baingan bhartha, you roast brinjals, mash them, and stir fry them. Mmm!

I would offer jalebi, fafda, khakhra, thepla, and kakdi to Bal Gopalji Bhagwan. And for Laddu Gopalji Bhagwan, I would offer paan and some cool water. And at last, I will offer flowers as pushpanjali and then put them to sleep. Jay Swaminarayan, Jay Shri Krishna.
