Battling the Mind
Dear Subscriber,
“Ketlãkne man ramãde chhe ne ketlãk manne ramãde chhe. Ã vãt nitya vichãrvã jevi chhe.” I am sure many of us may know this Swamini Vat by now, but we may not know the meaning behind it. It means: for some, the mind controls them, while others control their minds. This statement is worth remembering every day.
However, it is easier said than done. It is not very easy to control our minds from worldly desires, such as getting the latest video games, having the newest clothing item that’s in fashion, or getting the latest and greatest iPhone on the market!
If we remain firm in our minds, we will be able to attain Maharaj and Swami’s rajipo. This is just how one balak named Shulak Pagi did. The boy’s father had planted sweet melons in his farm. He thought to himself, “I will give the first melon that ripens to Shriji Maharaj.”
It was a hot day and Shulak Pagi had to walk by foot. On his way to meet Shriji Maharaj, he became hungry and thirsty. Shulak thought to himself, “I should eat this melon. I can bring something else for Shriji Maharaj later.” The boy walked a bit further. Again he thought,” Everyone brings expensive items to Shriji Maharaj. How can I just give him a melon? I shall eat this melon!” He took out his knife and he was about to start cutting the melon, but he paused. “This melon is for Shriji Maharaj only! I have been wanting to offer it to him before they were even ripe!” Thus, the boy fought his mind throughout the whole journey.
Of course, Shriji Maharaj already knew what had happened because he is the all-doer and all-knower. He knew that the boy had fought his mind. When Shulak reached Vartal, Shriji Maharaj lovingly took a piece of the melon and gave the rest as prasad. Shriji Maharaj was so proud of this boy he gave him 11.02 pounds of sugar! In the same way, our example of the melon today is the new phone we want or the new pairs of clothes or video game we want. So friends, do you know what this means? We too can conquer our minds by limiting the material objects we don’t always NEED to please Shriji Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj. Only then will we be able to progress in satsang.
Sincerely,
Jay Swaminarayan from the ‘kids.baps.org’ team

There are so many creative minds like yours that could benefit so much from using Kid’s Creation but the problem is they do not know about it.
