    Season’s Greetings!

Season’s Greetings!

The year’s end brings all kinds of festivities for people around the world. However, one of the first special days of the holiday season is our very own Diwali, the festival of lights! This year, it falls on November 12. But Diwali’s also actually surrounded by other special days like Dhan Teras, Kali Chaudash, Annakut, and Labh Pancham.

Which part of the Diwali holidays do you like the best? Is it the gifts, the fireworks, or the sweets? Or is it being with family? Or how about something else? Please describe what you like most about the Diwali holidays and how this very special time makes you feel.

Something I love about DIWALI is the fact that all the people around our small community in Brisbane act like family members and make it such a great place to enjoy. Another thing, I love is doing seva organizing the sweets/treats into towers with my friends. Last Year I did it with Dhir and Akshar but this year might be a change as more people might come to do seva, and quicken things up. DIWALI makes me feel 'happy' as we have many things here for kids. Such as 'KIDS DIWALI" where any child can come, no matter their age, beliefs, and gender. This is what makes DIWALI special, not only that but in the Story of Diwali there is a lot of history. And in that story, it teaches us how to be a sister (Sita Mata), brother (Lakshman came with RAM when he could have lived in a palace of gold), friend (Rams friends), devotee (Hanuman serves RAM to the end of the war), and the principle of karma (King Darshrata gets karma for what he to Shravan). This is why Diwali really means a lot to me and why I enjoy having fun with my friends.

During the time of Diwali I love spending time with my beloved family. At night I love to do tara mandal (sparklers), and I can't forget the sweets of Diwali. I also love eating prasad from the Annakut at mandir. Diwali is filled with laughter, peace, and a fresh start to the hindu new year.

Jay Swaminarayan This year's Diwali Celebration was a blast! This year we had a NJ Akshardham theme. One of my favorite parts were the Shayona Cafe, in the Shayona Cafe we had Pizza, Pasta, Breadsticks and my favorite, Cotton Candy. Another favorite part of Diwali is the gifts, you wonder what will be in the gift box, and you have so much excitement! Lastly, I also love the Kids Diwali Celebration, this year we had a amazing Construction Bouncy House, the person who ran the bouncy house was pretty tired but we provided him with some Diwali delicacies! These were my favorite parts of Diwali, I can't wait for next year! Happy Diwali! Saal Mubarak! Jay Swaminarayan
