Sports Day 2015
India
13 April 2015

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, April 13, 2015– Sports and games are an essential part of childhood. Not only because of the fun and joy they bring to children’s lives, but also because of the lifelong benefits they bring. Games promote healthy, active lifestyles; they teach values like discipline, control, unity, and tolerance. To harness those benefits in a fun way, the BAPS Bal Mandals across India organised Children’s Sports Days in the month of February. The Sports Days were organised throughout Gujarat and in major cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangaloreand Kolkata.
  • More than 4,000 centres held a Children’s Sports Day.
  • Approximately 45,000 children from standards 1-8 took part in the events.
  • Many centres gave out awards as encouragement to pursue a more active lifestyle.
  • Games included: sprints, obstacle races, relays, three-legged races, the Indian game ‘Kho’, slow cycling, frog jump, volleyball, football (soccer), cricket, basketball, musical chairs, chess, carom, table tennis, tug of war
