    Balika Parayan
12 September 2009, Auckland, New Zealand

On the occasion of the 200 years of Gunatitanand Swami’s Diksha, balikas from Auckland commemorated this by doing a parayan entitled “Swami ni Vaato”, at the Mandir. About 30 Balikas from the age of 3-13 years participated in this event. The event commenced with a loud dhandhero - welcoming and explaining the theme to the audience. This was followed by stuti gaan performed by shishus, who then came up and recited a few Swami ni Vaatos that they had memorized.

Further, nirupans were conducted on the Swami ni Vaatos by 6 balikas. The audience were astounded by the balikas’ confidence, eloquence and knowledge. The messages of these nirupans were emphasized through various plays. For example there was a scene on “Kalyaan no Khap” (pride for liberation) showing famine and “Swami Vivekanand” explaining the mahima of the human body to a beggar. Three other plays depicted the theme “Kalyaan na marg ma vighna” (obstacles on the path of liberation) in the form of television, bad company and laziness. The parayan concluded with P. Swamishri’s aashirwaad on Bal Sanskar. In all, the audience were left with various messages from Guanatitanand Swami’s discourses and a deeper appreciation of the hard work and talent exhibited by the balikas.
