Yogi Cup Indoor Football Tournament 2014
14 June 2014
Christchurch, New Zealand

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Christchurch organised Yogi Cup 2014 indoor football tournament on Saturday 14 June. Held at the Howzat indoor sports centre, Yogi Cup 2014 was the first ever bal mandal sporting event held in Christchurch. This turned out to be a great success with tremendous positive response from not just the players but also the parents.

Each team, which consisted of 5 players, was named after Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Ghanshyam (Red), Nilkanth (Green), and Shriji (Blue). Each team played a total of four games and the top two teams went through to the final. Team Nilkanth established themselves as favorites, as they progressed to the finals unbeaten throughout the round robin matches. Team Shriji had scratched there way to the final after two losses in the round robin matches. The final was a classic encounter, needing overtime to find a champion. In the end, even though team Shriji had lost twice to team Nilkanth in the round robin matches, team Shriji came out of overtime in the final as 2014 Yogi Cup Champions.

Throughout the tournament, players forged new friendships and learned the importance of teamwork, dedication and unity, aspects which Yogiji Maharaj had taught us and which Pramukh Swami Maharaj practices and preaches with great dedication in his life.
