The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto, Canada organized their annual Bal Parayan recently. However, this parayan was something different from the norm. It didn’t match the note of humdrum, ‘same old, same old’ the word ‘annual’ connotes. Performed by 81 balaks and organized and executed with the help of 30 karyakars, the 2 hour Bal Parayan was a performance unlike any the mandal in Toronto has seen before. Themed ‘Ek Raat Re’ like the other parayan of North America this season, this parayan also told the story of children’s search for a true and spiritual hero. The presentation inspired children to further themselves in the 3 S’s – shikshan (education), seva (service), and shraddha (faith). While the program surely spurred the children to move forward in their lives, it also gave parents an increased appreciation of the talents of their children and a greater sense of responsibility in inculcating these three S’s in their offspring.
